HELPFUL TIPS FOR THOSE WITH BACKGROUNDS SEEKING RENTAL

ASSISTANCE

I have listed specific background requirements for the apartments above, and each of them accept those with criminal backgrounds. However, the amount of time it requires will not fit all of the needs of those who need help with finding a place to call home. I would like to offer further insight that can aid when searching for rental properties while having a criminal background.

1. Be completely honest about your criminal history. This is VERY important and I can not stress it enough how important it is for you all to do this. If your background is found and you lied, there's no doubt that your application will be denied.

2. Due to having a criminal background, it is in the best interest of those of you with felony backgrounds to rent from private renters. When dealing with an individual you will have the ability to explain yourself, and elaborate on how your past is just that, in your past. Most apartment complexes will not give you that ability, and will have to have your application reviewed by the management, which could be a number of people.

3. If you are given the opportunity to rent a property, please keep in mind that it is extremely important that you treat your 2nd chance opportunity to lease a place to call home with a background for what it is; a BLESSING. Follow the rules of your lease, and make sure that you are a upstanding citizen in the community in which you move into, so that you do not cause the person who gave you a 2nd chance to not offer the opportunity to the next person that comes a long with a background. Due to having criminal backgrounds, we are already judged as a whole in most cases by most people, so it is up to us to change the perspective of the world by our actions proving that who we were in the past does not define who we are today. Finding people who are willing to give us a 2nd chance, also depends on how we all treat the 2nd chances that we receive.
